Ceramics: Beginner and Intermediate

Learn how to create wheel thrown ceramics in this 6-week course designed for both beginner and intermediate clay artists. The basics of handling clay are introduced with a hand building project to allow students to explore this new material. Quickly moving to the wheel, we will be creating cylinder and bowl forms and potentially adding attachments, such as handles for mugs. Glazing and firing is included in the course, which will transform your pots into functional art. Intermediate students will be given more options for learning upper level techniques.

Ceramic Glazing Techniques 1

Explore various glazing techniques in these stand alone workshops. A bisque fired dinner plate will be provided for each student to glaze.

Ceramic Hand Building Workshop

Learn the basics of hand building ceramics by creating a finished piece of clay art, complete with glazing and firing. Step-by-step instructions will be provided in this beginner workshop. Note: This workshop meets a second time for glazing the artwork after initial firing. After that, artwork can be picked up from the ClayLab one week after the class.

Maker-Space

Clay artists can subscribe to our Maker-Space program to get 24/7 access to our clay lab. Subscriptions run for 1, 3, 6, and 12 months.

Open Studio Hours

All current students can come to the ClayLab to practice throwing during our open gallery hours throughout the time of their course. The instructor will be in the studio one hour before classes to also assist in student practice time.
