Water Street Studios New Exhibitions: "In the Marvelous Real" by Chris Hodge & Cynthia Hellyer Heinz and “Innocent Dawn” by Roger Carlson

Dempsey Family Gallery

Water Street Studios’ Dempsey Family Gallery will be hosting the work of Cynthia Hellyer Heinz and Chris Hodge. This exhibition pairs the work of two artists with exquisite technical abilities that share a devotion to the exploration of the human effort of self-definition. Chris Hodge crafts portraits of the corruption of spirit and slavish preoccupation with superficial externalities. Cynthia Hellyer Heinz studios the interstice between truth and the fabulous where idiosyncratic personal stories are woven from meticulously rendered aggregations of the brutal everyday and exalted eternal.

2nd Floor Gallery

Water Street Studios’ 2nd Floor Gallery will exhibit artwork by Roger Carlson. Carlson’s work is an exploration into the relationship between humans and the afterlife featuring reverse paintings on Plexiglas using a variety of mediums.

Opening reception will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. The artists will be present at the reception to discuss their work and answer questions. In addition, appetizers will be provided by Gaetano’s Restaurant in Batavia, cash bar featuring beer from Solemn Oath Brewery and wine will be available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public. We encourage all visitors to make a $5 donation at the door to support arts programming at Water Street Studios. A special thank you to event sponsor, K. Hollis Jewelers.

Both gallery exhibits will continue to be on display until November 3, 2018.

The exhibits in both galleries can be visited during regular public gallery hours: Friday, 2 to 6 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 12 to 4 p.m. at 160 S. Water Street in Batavia.

Water Street Studios November Exhibitions: "Negotiating Nature" by Mike Helbing and Wendy Ritchey and “Chairs & Stares” by Deborah Di Vita Glascott

Dempsey Family Gallery

Water Street Studios’ Dempsey Family Gallery will be hosting the work of Mike Helbing and Wendy Ritchey in an exhibition titled “Negotiating Nature.” Helbing and Ritchey's exhibition moves through ideas and perceptions regarding humankind's role in the natural world. Their artwork reflects shifting attitudes towards all inhabitants of the universe, from micro to macro, from scripture to myth.

Chicago Capital Gallery

Water Street Studios’ Chicago Capital Gallery will display Deborah Di Vita Glascott’s exhibition “Chairs & Stairs.” Di Vita Glascott lures observers through seductive color and compositional elements. She invites you to see an empty chair or space as loneliness, or as a comfort, as a sculpture, or as a portrait. She invites you to see a portrait as more than a likeness, rather as an essence, an attitude, or as a story told or recalled.

Opening reception will be held Friday, November 9, 2018 from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
